erusalem was first mentioned in an Egyptian Execration Text of the second millennium B.C. as Ursalim, one of many cities conquered by the Pharaoh.  A Canaanite tribe called the Jebusites were the first recorded inhabitants who lived on the Temple Mount area.  The name, itself, means "Peace."  The idea must have been more one of a hopeful ideal since it has been invaded by no less than nine cultures over its long and sad history.

Today, the Patriarchal Order of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem, Province of the United States, has focused on the plight of the Christians living within the city and it's environs.  The Order sends packages of serviceable, used clothing, non-narcotic medications and liturgical supplies to the area.  In addition a little joy is brought into the hearts of the children by the attention of some of the members who send toys and other items of amusement.
